Angry BES with Groupwise Problems

Please Login to Remove!

Hello everyone,

I'm a new member to the forum. I am currently trying to get BES up and running and am having a lot of difficulty. I am installing BES 4.1.6(Bundle65) on a VM box with Groupwise 7 on the back end. I managed to install the server and all services are running. I am able to pass all the tests, port 3101 is ok, sql database (local SQL Server 2005) is ok, SRP and ID are ok, trusted application appears in ConsoleOne.

I added myself as a user and tried to activate my Blackberry, it did not work.
I did receive numerous email to my mailbox from RIM with the encryption key. They stayed in the mailbox for a while then dissapeared. The user status went from Initializing to No Pin. I have not tried to activate using the local USB connection (VM - no usb). I am also unable to send an email message to myself from the Blackberry Manager (should i be able to even though status is No Pin ?)

I have read through a lot of the post on this forum and others, a lot of good information, but at this point I am stuck. My next move would be to start from scratch on a stand alone box so I can use the USB activation.

If anyone has any ideas where to go or what else to check or try, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Martin

Default I forgot to add...

Forgot to add one thing...

For the Groupwise server connection mode i chose 6.5 OAPI Mode

I know it's not recommended with a 7 backend but should still work, no?

thanks

Yes, it'll work. The biggest problem I ran into setting BES up is getting the right version of the GroupWise client installed on the server. What version of Groupwise are you running on the BES server, I'm running 6.5.7 dated 5/22/07.

I am running client version 7.0.3 hot patch 1 on the BES.

I've seen the NOPIN issue in the past when the Cellular Company has the BlackBerry provisioned as BIS (Blackberry Internet Service) instead of BES. A Quick (yeah right) call to them should verify that. If that isn't the issue, I've also seen backing everything up and wiping the device, then trying to activate usually works.

Hope that helps...

I think you need to have the 6.5 client installed to use the 6.5 OAPI mode. Have you gotten the global addressbook to sync yet?

Also, if your BES is in a VM, you can install the manager on a WinXP workstation and activate by USB that way too.

We are running the same setup with the 703 client with no problems. I'd echo knoogle's post . . .hard reset your device then make sure the provider has provisioned the 'berry for BES. Also you can grep the MAGT log for your account and check that for the encryption process handshake that occurs after the ETP message is pulled back by the BES. If you see an error, I think it's something like 'cannot generate key' or something similar that usually means a mis-provisioned phone.

7.0.3 should not be the issue. I also agree with Knoogle and Raindownsugar that the phone is not provisioned properly for BES access.

Talking Thank you very much...

Thank you for all your quick replies and suggestions...

All is well now... and you were right, the hh was provisioned for bis not bes.

And since i have your ear:

Is it problematic to move the local sql database to point and reside on another
server ?

thanks again everyone,
martin

Hi Martin,
Glad we could help, us Groupwise BES Admins needs to stick together (all 10 of us ) I remember seeing a TID on how to move the SQL Database to another server, but I haven't done it. We have it running in its Virtual Machine and just runs, and I haven't wanted to mess with a working system. Let me know how it goes, if it goes well I'm just do it myself.
