Pretty much everyone has summed it up. A lot of my friends have a BB but another cell phone. Most instances, it's because the BB is employer-paid, and they aren't about to pay for the cell service for employees. In other cases, the BB is on one carrier and their cell phones are on another carrier.

That being said, I carry around my BB and a cell phone. Reason: My cell phone has one number in one area code (home city - and family can get a hold of me ASAP) and my BB is for another area code (work city). I was killing myself on long distance charges, and this was the practical solution at the time.

a BB and a phone all the way !!! I have them on different provider, so sometimes I use the BB as a phone to call contacts who are on the same provider. As far as I know, it's cheaper to make a phone call on the same provider. ;)

I use my BB as a phone and home phone. I actually have saved a lot of money by cutting off my home phone even with 2 BB's in the house with unlimited everything.

I use a blackberry and a cell phone. I have my own phone that I had for a long time with verizon and not too long a ago my brother added me to his plan on T-mobile and I pretty much only pay for the data plan when the monthly bill comes out. My Blackberry keeps me off my computer for a long time which I think is good, I don't spend as much time on the computer as I used to. If I could not afford to have both then I would only carry my curve.

This is the boat that I fall into. I use an unlocked 8700c on T-Mobile for work (voice and data), and then I have a couple of different phones from AT&T that I switch back and forth from for my personal line. That is of course until the Bold becomes available then I just may carry two BB's.

My company issues BlackBerrys to construction supervisors in the field. These guys travel quite a bit and sometimes they are in areas where the service provider for their BlackBerry has a poor signal. They carry another phone (usually a device with US Cellular service) so that they can still get phone calls. They always need to be in touch and this is the only good solution we've found.

If people have both a BB and a phone usually it has to do with their job. The phone on the BBs are pretty good and they have a great address book.
