Default What do I have to do in order to ensure I have Blackberry Internet Service?

Please Login to Remove!

When I purchase my new Blackberry Bold, what do I have to do in order to ensure I have Blackberry Internet Service in my plan?

On some websites I have not seen any option for BIS anywhere.

When I buy my Blackberry, I am going to use it for the following:

Checking emails (gmail, hotmail)
Surfing the internet (FT.com, Google, Facebook etc)
Making Calls
Sending SMS

Will a basic calling plan and BIS cover all of the above?

If so, what do i have to ask for to make sure BIS is included in my package?

Many Many Thanks to you all!

Call the carrier and have them set it up and properly provision the device. They will then send service books and set up your BIS account.

Svenssen,

very simple. just suscribe unlimited + BES services plan from your carrier and start setup your bis account from Setup>E-mail Settings.

you can create up to 10 email accounts

Thanks

You don't really need BES, unless your planning on syncing your corp mail. BIS is sufficient. It'll do all the things you've mentioned. And usually, when you subscribe to BIS+Data Package, the info is automatically updated by your carriers based on your account and a simple re-boot of your BB will start to download the Host Routing Table, Service Books, etc. That's it!

If you're not familiar with BIS e-mail setup, you can always ask your friendly carrier peeps to configure for you. :D

Not sure what your carrier does but I access my BIS online and can swap devices add/delete account from via the internet. It even lets you send out your own service books to yourself. I used it today to swap everything accross from my pearl.

So how exactly do i subscribe to the BIS+Data package?

Is this something i ask my carrier 2 provide with my contract when im in store about to buy the bold?

Or is this something I have to do independently after purchasing the bold from a store.

Im confused as to whether BIS is a carrier/service provider facility or a facility provided by BlackBerry.

All i want to do is use my blackberry
a) as a normal phone to make calls and send sms
b) surf the web & check emails & use WiFi (home and outside) without getting charged thousands for data usage!!

Please could someone clear this up, ive tried my best to understand but I simply dont!

Thanks very much guys.

When you go to buy your Bold, tell them you want the BIS and data plan and they will take care of you.

You choose the data plan you want. If you can get an unlimited email and internet one all the better. It might cost 5 or 10 per month. Once you have that, and its activated by the network, you log into set up on either your phone or the website on your pc. You would need to go to the t mobile website.

From there you can set up your BIS account.
