Unhappy Battery getting empty very quick after OS 4.5 upgrade

Please Login to Remove!

Hi everyone,

I upgraded my BB 8800 from OS 4.1 to OS 4.5 and ever since that day the battery doesn't last for 3-5 days, as before, but only for 36 hours. No additional applications are running and GPS and Bluetooth are also off. Any suggestions?

Many thanks

Of all that have upgraded, I have not noticed that as an issue among them. I don't think there is a correlation.

This is strange as it started happening exactly on that day... nobody else ran across this issue?

Welcome to the forums

I have not noticed any difference in battery life since upgrading to 4.5. If possible, try confirming this theory by rolling back to your previous version and see if the battery life is back to 3-5 days.

Hi jsconyers & thanks for welcoming me.

I'll check if I can roll back to 4.1 and give it a try...

8820 here, no extra battery drain after upgrading from OS 4.2 to OS 4.5.

8830 here no significant battery drain from version 4.5.51, will say that a previous version 4.5.33 (I think) I ended up rolling back becuase battery life suffered. Also 4.5.33 had a significant memory leak that seems to be better (not perfect) in the newer version.

memory loss was no different.
battery took a huge hit when i upgraded to os4.5.
i still think RIM shafted the battery, so the move to the bold would be more pleasant. as the battery life on my bold is the same as os4.5 on my 8820. i find that pretty strange. especially when i could easily squeeze more than a day out of os4.2

at least, ive had battery saving lessons thanks to 4.5 ;)

I noticed on some themes that the battery indicator drops much faster than on 4.2 However, if you check out the status in the options menu the battery is not as bad off as the indicator might point out. I've found the performance to be quite similar in my experience over the past couple of months.

Oh yeah. Today was the first day that I didn't have my BB plugged in for any part of the day after installing 4.5. I did one 2-min. phone call all day and received my normal volume of messages. Battery is down to 50% and counting. Before 4.5, I'd say the max the battery would decrease on a day like today would be 25% from full. 8310 Curve.

Default battery low

My 8830 use's more juice with 4.5 also. I just have a couple of batteries and keep extra charged. I like the new os better and also got EVDO sevice so I am not sure if I might be using it more also.

Angry Battery drain confirmed!

Yes, unfortunately I can confirm that after upgrading my 8800 to 4.5 firmware my battery lasted much shorter than before. After charging in the evening my battery and disconnecting the charger before going to bed (battery fully charged, of course) I usually woke up in the morning at 7 am and found only 65% of total charge. I tried to wipe the firmware and reinstall the os two times but the result was always the same. I began to feel like a fool because I was the only one to experience that issue but now I see i was not alone
As a result I reverted to my former firmware 4.2 and battery came back to life again. I also bought a new original battery but nothing changed!
So, I definitely reverted back to 4.2 and BB now works flawlessly.
4.5 is probably too buggy for now (how many smaller versions have been released...?) and I decided to wait for a newer and better one: I use it for work and cannot afford to waste time with new buggy fw's for now.

Hope it helps,

Default Battery Life Woes

I must confess that , I am quite happy to note that I was not the only one , with battery problems!!

ever since my upgrade to OS 4.5 (from OS 4.2) on my 8820, the battery life is limited to a maximum of 18 hours,

I request anyone else to run a test on their devices .

I do not have the time to revert to OS 4.2, as it is a cumbersome process.

I have bought 2 additional batteries, and they are both draining just as fast,

really sad, as the 4.5 OS is actually very good,

regards

Reverting is not cumbersome and should take less than an hour. I've done this kind of thing on an original Curve. I haven't noticed any shorter battery life with my 8820 when upgrading from the original 4.2 to 4.5. Do you keep bluetooth and WiFi turned on?

Default Got it!

Alright, I think I figured it out:

For the past weeks (or maybe even months) I've been charging my BB 8800 via USB on my Laptop, all the way up to 100% charge. Never used the regular charger.

Then I upgraded to OS 4.5 and afterwards still used the USB cable for charging it. Ever since that upgrade the battery emptied after just 36 hours of (barely) using it.
A few days ago, over night, I used the charger to charge it and from the next morning on, after about 6 hours of charging, the battery lasted for more than just a 36 hours (I left it in there even after it was on 100% after just 1.5 hours).

It looks like charging it via USB for a long time brings it up to 100%, that's what it says under "Status", but it doesn't really charge it well. Sounds like an electrical or chemical issue.

I will keep using the charger from now on and we'll see what happens. The more I use it the better the battery life seems to get.

Anyways... problem solved... for now... hopefully

I'll keep you updated on how this goes!

first i want to say with my 8830 Upgraded to 4.5.0.77 i think my battery life got better not worse...

to Riyadh: to confirm what you are saying believe it or not most electronics and there recommended course AKA wall charger and there secondary sources USB. when charging in the USB you only get a superficial or "maintenance" charge which is why it only lasted 18hrs until you loaded the charge with the wall charger.

My battery life has definitely gone down. I used to get a full day or 2 with 4.2, but now I get a little over 12 hours. I pound on the phone all day though, run a few apps in the background, etc.
