Just noticed latest update released for Rogers Wireless handhelds.
Prior to that I did upgrade mine to 4.0.2.49 Cingular that I believe is identical.
I have two handhelds in my household, 7100t and 7100v.
Both use software released for neither of the original carriers and work fine; bluetooth is clear and loud on a Jabra 250v, no crashes, no dropped calls.
Just a temporary lost voicemail link on the 7100v, now restored.
I do not believe firmware releases are carrier specific, nore are there differences between various unit models apart from the form factor.
Rogers is now marketing the 7100g, this might be the mistery phone received from RIM that someone mentioned earlier as the possible hot new handheld.

i was on the site earlier and didn't see the 4.0.2.49, maybe they took it down until the release of the 7100g. Oh well what improvements does it have ?

Have no idea.
Upgraded mine with code released for Cingular .
It is not on Rogers' site, but RIM's. Here:

I believe there is a release note somewhere listing what was chenged. Do not expect too much, a few known bugs fixed probably, something you haven't even noticed.

Rogesr 4.0.2.49 is definitely out for 7100 and 7290.
