Default May I pick your brains please - BES 4.1 SP6

Please Login to Remove!

I am just in the process of downloading SP6 to apply it to my BES as I have found the need for native attachments. I haven't done much with the BES since its initial install 18 months ago (aside from adding users etc). Although I did the install myself I am pretty much a novice. Is there anything i need to do before applying the SP or do i just run the SP exe file and it will take care of itself (definitely my preferred option!)

Any advice would be warmly received - thanks in advance

Are you running domino, exchange or groupwise?

Get a good backup of your BES SQL Configuration Database prior to the upgrade.

If your database is backed up, then you are in a pretty good position to recover from any unexpected upgrade problems.

SP installations are typically pretty simple. Click Next, Click Next, Click Next ... reboot ... done.

Whatever you do, make sure that you have the database backed up.

You're best bet is to follow RIM's upgrade or installation guide for your version of GW//Exchange

Hi,

I am running Exchange. The last backup was done last night so I have that to hand should anything go wrong....

I've applied lots of SP's in the past to Windows Server 2003 and our Exchange Server and never had any problems - just not done one to the BES before

before running the sp exe, stop all bes services. I'm not famaliar with Exchange, you may need to stop that as well. The setup program is designed to stop the services but I have run into trouble with that in the past.

Before you ugrade, be aware of some issues reported from other users concerning SP6.
