Default Trackball metal piece

Please Login to Remove!

I tried searching on this one but couldn't find anything. There is a metal piece on the backside of the trackball. It looks like the trackball pushes on this and this piece allows it to easily push whatever it is on the circuit board. Reason I ask is I was trying to fix my trackball because it was acting sticky and I bent this piece. While trying to bend it back it broke off (what luck I tell you). After literally having a heart attack over this I found that the trackball still works and in my opinion it works better. Anyone know what the function of this really is and if its really a bad thing not to have it on the trackball?

I'm not asking about where to get a new one just if its a problem to not have that piece or what its true function is.

I don't know it works fine for me. I'm just going to leave it. I don't have the money to spend $23+ on a trackball. Kinda spendy in my opinion.

My guess is without the metal piece, dust will get in the device.
