I'm new to the BlackBerry world. Dare I ask, what is the OS? And what is the difference between the one I have now and the one shown in this thread? How do I know which OS I currently have? I hope I'm not sounding too dumb.

If you have a new BB you likely have the new operating system (OS). IF you go to the options icon on your phone (Wrench Icon) and click that. Then click on advnced options and then click applications it will tell you what operating system you are running. If you have the ability to record video on your phone you have the new software. The new software also has a new theme called the L theme. Once you get a little more savy with your device you will know what that means. You can set different themes on the device, which is just how you want the desktop on your BB to look as far as the arrangement of the icons.

I was wondering why a new phone like this doesn't have a video recorder. So if I download the 4.5 (I checked, I currently have the 4.2), I'll be able to record videos? Will it mess anything around with my current Applications or contacts?

If you upgrade your OS all your data will be backed up and restored during the process.

Are these not sanctioned by the carriers or something? ATT still has the last firmware as 2.2.17
Anyway, is there a direct link, that site was all in gibberish

Hmm. I must be doing something wrong. I've downloaded the new version of Desktop Manager. I then downloaded the latest OS, 4.5. I deleted the vendor.xml file, plugged in the BB, opened up the Desktop Manager, but I don't see where it says I can upgrade my OS. Any help would be appreciated.

What i would suggest is going into Add And Remove programs and delete and version of desktop manager you have a re-download it. Because your downloading a different version sometimes instead of upgrading the previous one it will install a fresh copy of the new one leaving the previous one intact. So while you think your pressing the short-cut link to open the new version of Desktop Manager it may be launching the old version instead. So delete the desktop manager from your computer, all versions and then reinstall the current one and try again...
Me myself, i had about 3 different versions of desktop manager in my add and remove programs that i made sure was uninstalled before i installed the new version..

I just upgraded this morning. It works like a dream. What I did was close the DM all together after I upgraded to DM 5.0. I then plugged in my BB and backed up the entire thing. Then I disconnected my BB and closed the DM. Went to the website to download the new OS 4.5. When I hooked up my BB and opened the DM it asked me if I wanted to upgrade. Did yours not do that?

I don't think it has anything to do with the Desktop Manager. It says in the bottom left corner of the DM that it is version 4.5. When I used to have the older version, it was totally different looking than this new one. So I'm sure I have the right one.
EDIT: I just read the above post. Seems like I have the DM v4.5. I had no idea there was a v5.0. Heh. I'll get that one now I guess.

It will take about an hour all together to load. It works like a dream though. I love it. I have been messing with it today and everything seems to work well. I did not have to reload a second time like it suggests in the instructions, but you may have too. Good luck! You'll get it.

You say you have DM v5.0? In the first post of this thread, where it provides a link to the different downloads, the latest version seems to be only 4.5, which is the one I have. I don't see any version 5.0 when i follow that link.

Whenever I open Desktop Manager as the last step, all is does is sync. Nothing appears about an upgrade...
I've removed and reinstalled the OS 4.5 on my computer, and still nothing.

Have you removed the vendor.xml file from the apploader folder?

Yes, I have deleted that file. I'm going to try again in a little bit; I have things to do now.
EDIT: Ah, I'm such a smart cookie. I found out what the problem was: I have the 8320. Haha. Sorry for the trouble everyone.
