Default OK to use Desktop Manager 4.5.0 with a 4.2.1 OS?

Please Login to Remove!

I just noticed that there's a new Desktop Manager out, I'm running 4.2.2. I was going to upgrade my OS soon too from 4.2.1.94, but in the meantime, is it ok to upgrade just the Desktop Manager to the most recent 4.5.0? I assume so, but thought to double check, in case it's supposed to go with the newer 4.5.0 OS's.

Thanks!

I'm sure it's ok but I don't know why you'd want to. The new versions are s-l-o-w.

Funny thing you say that. I've noticed the exact opposite. Everything including backing up my phone is faster than the previous versions.

I think it should be fine, but it's recommended that you use 4.3. I don't think you will have problems though. I won't use it because the 4.3 DTM works fine for me.

Hi, do you mind telling me where you read that? Generally speaking, they make all these softwares backwards compatible, so I was guessing it should be fine, but thought to double check here first...

Agreed...WAY quicker.

I just installed DM 4.5 because I couldn't get my Pearl (an 8130 running 4.3.0.127) to connect at the office using the 4.2 SP2 I had before.

Not sure if I was supposed to have DM 4.3, but I installed my Pearl's OS using 4.2 SP2 from home. That worked fine.

Now, using DM 4.5 to connect to my Pearl works great. I'm able to sync at the office again. Everything was super quick, didn't have to change ANY settings and it worked perfect the first time around. Everything was a LOT faster. Very nice interface, too.

Today I'm upgrading to a Curve, and using DM 4.5 to install the 4.5 OS onto it. Can't wait!

Well, I can confirm it does work. And the best part was that I didn't bother uninstalling the old DM first. I used to always do that as good practice (uninstall apps first before upgrading them, as it's often required anyway), but I didn't this time to see if it would require me to do so, and it didn't!

It does look way slicker. Same features pretty much (haven't tried media manager yet though). Timing wise, seems to take about the same time in terms of sync'ing with Outlook contacts and backing up - I've got about 7 MB's. But it picks up more fields now in Outlook, like birthdays and anniversaries, that it didn't before.

Overall happy.
