Default Outlook emails without Wireless account

Please Login to Remove!

I've just got a 8310 to try as a smartphone not yet needing the use of push email or web browsing. All I want to do is connect via USB and sync with Outlook email messages but the option to reconcile messages in Desktop Manager cannot be ticked. The only option on the device for email setup is BES or skip. I can sync all other Outlook options such calender ok. Another thing but not a problem is how does the device know to go into standby mode and come out of it when I just simply slide in and remove it from basic case that comes with it?

You cannot do email synch without a BB Data Plan BIS/BES. You can only synch PIM and calendar.

On the case, there is a magnet that puts it to "Sleep".

Good Luck!

Thanks, There is simply no way to do email without BIS account? So if I buy BIS a SIM update would add the option on device I assume?

I was thinking of trying what is known on O2 as a data bolt on so I guess that would not work either?

Just for now I just wanted to stick with my PAYG for voice and use the data bolt option at £7.50/month to try. I'm not wanting to commit to a contract but a data bolt on would not work on a BB device?

Nope. You need either BIS or BES. It can't be done through a USB cable.

I'm not familiar with O2, but it needs to be a BB Data Plan, which is usually more expensive than the general data add-ons. The BB Data Plan will send "service books" down to your device which will tell it to give you email/browsing.

Thanks, yes a BB Data plan on O2 is currently only available to contract users which I don't really need. The mobile instant BB email and web browsing is for me a nice to have rather than a must have at the moment, Cheers.

A BB with a data plan isn't much of a BB. Maybe try convincing your boss to pay for it. If your in IT or sales it'll be an easy sell. I got mine under the guise of afterhours support.

I always hit the spacebar twice expecting my laptop to place a period. lol

Actually you can't sync mail on any BB. BB email is all pushed and, in some cases, reconciled.

Lotsa happy BB owners user theirs without a data plan. If you need the data functions you need a data plan. If you don't you don't. Unless you're with a carrier that requires a BB data plan you have the choice, thankfully.
