Just call T-Mo customer service ask them.
T-Mobile will provide unlock codes free of charge if you have an account with them that has been in good standing for at least 90 days.
This is nothing new.

And they will provide further unlock codes at the rate of 1 every 90 days...

I don't care about getting an unlock code to take my phone elsewhere (I'm very happy with T-Mobile) but I like the idea of being able to travel internationally and use other carriers's SIM cards if necessary with an unlocked phone.

Out of curiosity, what are the specific steps that you need to follow to unlock your Curve once you get the unlock code from T-Mobile?

If you are a T-Mobile customer, the e-mail from T-Mobile will contain step-by-step instructions to unlock your Curve. I just got my unlock code from them today. Unlike the FAQ, the T-Mobile instructions instruct you to turn all connections off before entering the unlock code.

Default thanks for the reminder :-)

i saw this thread and it reminded me that it's been more than 90 days since i last requested tmo for unlock code. too busy messing with my 8320. it's very easy as others have said. i called tmo 611 and gave them email address, phone model and imei number. they process my request after looking at my account to make sure it's been at least 90 days since last unlock code request. tmo doesn't even care what your reasons are. i've unlock 3 phones with them without having to give a reason. tmo said it could take up to 7 days for me to get email with unlock code but in the past it's been more like one or two days at the most. i have no NEED for an unlock phone but it just makes me feel like i truely OWN my phone once it's been unlock. crazy, i know...

It also increases the resale value of your phone when you go to upgrade to the next model.

I'd imagine that it is mainly the "upgrade every time a new model comes out" crowd that goes through this process so if they were smart they would view it as "enabling future sales" as customers who can resell their previous phone at a decent price are more likely to buy a new one.

Default unlock for pearl too?

Would the process to unlock a pearl be just as easy as the curve? Sorry if this is going away from the original thread. Now that i have the curve, need to sell pearl unlocked.
