Default Outlook Rules and the BB

Please Login to Remove!

Hi All,
On BES here. I have a unique way that I organize my outlook inbox where I group by thread and conversation (similar to gmail). I have this rule setup in outlook.
Apply this rule after i send the message
sent to (everyone in address book)
move a copy to the inbox folder.

This will move my sent emails to the inbox to group in the conversation with the replys and so forth.

Now my problem is when I send an email from BB it doesn't get into my inbox in outlook to be grouped in the conversation.

Any ideas on how to create a rule in outlook so that when BES adds a sent email (that I sent from the BB) to the outlook sent folder, to move a copy of that, unread, to the outlook inbox?

Ideas?

I'd like to try to help, but I'm not 100% I understand what you're doing.

Can you give a 'for example'?

The short story is I would like this to happen. If I send an email using BB, I would like an unread copy of that sent email to end up in my outlook inbox, without it resending again to the BB.
Tough huh?

Hi,
I am using the UK Vodafone BIS so this may or may not be useful to you but here goes anyway.

I had the same need, to ensure sent business email from my BB ended up in my Outlook Sent folder. I configured my accounts as follows:
  1. Configure each email account on the BIS to BCC a copy of each sent email to the same email address.
  2. Configure each account on the BIS with a Filter that traps the 'From' email address and if a match is made, does not forward this email on to the BB (the email will though, be received by the main Inbox so that it can be 'pulled' by an Outlook client). In addition, the Default Filter must be set to Forward Email if a Filter does not make a match, unless you have another Filter configured to push the email (for example, one that traps all incoming mail and just pushes Headers).
  3. Lastly, I configured a Rule in Outlook for each forwarded email address to trap the address and route it to the 'Sent' folder

I would think that considering you are using BES, you would need to be able to configure a rule on the BES system to trap the incoming email address to prevent it from being forwarded.

I think my situation is way different. On BES, when I send from the BB a read copy of that email moves to the sent folder on my outlook. What I need to do, is after that happens, move an unread copy of that sent email to my outlook inbox.

Hi Mellis,

Using an Outlook Rule, I know you can move/copy incoming emails to another folder but having checked the Rules functionality myself, you can set the email as Read, but not Unread. You could search for an Outlook Custom Action on the Web; one may have been developed to perform this task.

That doesn't work. With BES, the sent folders on the BB and outlook just reconsile. Outlook doesn't recognize it as "new mail arriving".

...i may be wrong here, but i think that this is something that needs to be set up within the BES server seeing as it is the component that is routing the emails back and forth b/t outlook and BB. you may want to take the issue up with your BES admin to see what can be done.

Wirelessly posted (8100 Pearl)

I am not sure this is a BES issue but rather how outlook and outlook severs manage rules.

I have used rules in outlook for years and one thing I have yet to figure out is that some of the rules operate at the sever level and some operate at the local level. In other words some rules are active and operate whether I have Outlook running or not and whatever the rule is is applied at the sever level. The second group seems to only operate when outlook is running on my local machine.

Having said that it appears as though you need to make sure the "sent item rule" is applied at the server level. If it gets applied at the local level it is aleady too late since it will have already been placed in sent items at the sever level.

This may be an issue that needs to be discussed with Microsoft or your email admins.

Darn, the rule I use is local only and it will not let me apply at the server level. My original thinking is lets make the BB have to option to set up rules, just like outlook does.
