Hi guys, new to the forum and new to blackberry. My battery life went down to half a day with an hour galss being displayed every 2 seconds. I pressume that there was a program running in the background chewing up the battery. Any idea what it may be and what the smiley face icon in with a number 1 next to it?

Welcome to the forum.

you can press and hold "Alt" + "Del" to check what program is running in the background, Exit out all the programs that you dont want to use.

But keep in mind there are some program cannot be close or exit out, it is always there, like "Browser", "Messages", "BBM", "Home" and "Phone".

The blue smiley means someone in your BBM sent you a message, I believe. I dont use BBM that much, so, I could be wrong.

Yep, that's what it is. You have 1 new BB messenger message. To check your message, find BB messenger in your application list, or I think the message shows up in your messages folder.

This wouldn't have changed your battery usage, however, since BB Messenger is ALWAYS running in the background. You can't turn it off.

If I had to wager a bet, I'd say your memory is low. Go to Options >Status and check your free memory.

And to check what programs are running it's alt + Esc (button to the right of the trackball.)
