Hi,

I lost my 8700 yesterday and purchased a Curve in it's place. Man, I hate not having that wheel...anyways...

Some of the shortcuts on the Curve seem different to me and the biggest of all is composing SMS messages. On the 8700 I would click Messages and then hit "C" to compose. From there it would take me to a screen to quickly choose SMS.

On the curve, "C" instantly takes me to composing an email and not the old command. I have to hit another menu for SMS.

The other way was WAY faster. Is there a shortcut I am missing for quickly composing SMS messages?

I wonder if it is a difference in the OS versions on the BlackBerry. I have an 8700g, but I am using OS 4.2. I believe I remember being able to do what you have described, but with the 4.1 OS. Now on my 8700g, whenever I press the 'C' key, it takes me directly to composing an e-mail.

On my 8800 with 4.2.1, the C key takes you to the address book in anticipation of composing an email, from there I can select a name and then use the application key to choose email, SMS, MMS or PIN (depending on what is present in the contacts info)...

I am not sure if this is theme dependent as well...I didn't have time to experiment on that this morning.

Exactly! It was different before.

You have to already be in the Messages "folder" to hit "C" to compose.

I woner if there is a work around or if this is an update to the system software?

Well, I had a little time to play around with this...again, 8800 running 4.2.1.101.
I also changed to various themes, so here is what I found...

From the Home Screen:
C results in opening your 'C'ontacts (Address Book)...if you then hit the application key, the presented list of options defaults to things to do with that contact (i.e. call, email, sms, mms, PIN)
A results in opening your Address Book as well, but if you use the appliction key here, you default to view...interesting difference

From the Message Screen:
C results in opening a blank email message, much like any other email application.
