Default Max Size for Micro SD Card

Please Login to Remove!

I checked my manual as well as on blackberrys website, but i cannot find the maximum supported size for the media card. I have read on this forum that people have had success with cards up to 2gb, but im curious as to if that is the most, or if anyone has experimented with bigger?
Its tough dropping 40 bucks (canadian) for a 2gb, when i could get an 8gb for around 90$.

I have used the search option, hence why i state "I have read on this forum that people have had success with cards up to 2gb"
The posts i found were outdated, posted in 2006 beginning of 07. i could not find an updated thread pertaining to this topic, (although i am positive one exists, i could not find it with keywords that i produced.)
Please do not post garbage in the future, either answer the question or ignore the post.

4 gb is supported on the 8100 currently with the updated OS. 2gb is mostly certainly supported on a 8100.

Rumors abound about 8gb, but it is only rumor at this point. Don't wait.

Elijah, please don't tell new users to search, unless you can also provide some clue or link as to what you would recommend they search for. We've all been there. Thanks.

Don't give him a hard time, guys. Sometimes I am unable to find things because I am not exactly sure WHAT to search for exactly. So give 'em a break.

I have read through the topics, thank you very much for the help, but one more question still remains.

People stated that they used the 4gb cards, and they were recognized, but only had 2gb of space available. Once they updated the firmware, all 4gb became usable.
My question now is, if i purchased an 8gb card, do you think only 4gb will be recognized until they release a new firmware update? Since the format is the same, SDHC, i would imagine the only problem is the machine being able to recognize the extra storage space, which is again just a software issue.
Has anyone tried this? Does anyone have any opinion on the outcome?

Since the 8Gb's aren't out yet, it's not known whether or not the larger cards will work. Still remains to be seen. 4Gb works as long as you have the latest OS on the device.

I would imagine that the 8gb would work just as well as the 4 gb cards. I say this becasue they are both made of the same technology micro SDHC. But like John said, untill it comes out the 4 gb is the biggest out there. Well that is until the 6 gb comes out.

What is the earliest OS version that supports a 4GB card?

Just curious where you are able to pick up an 8gb MicroSD chip from CheddarBot.

Most of the 4.2.1 and up OS's support the 4Gb card. I know they work from 4.2.1.95 and up but not sure if it works on the 4.2.1.66 and .91 as I don't recall anyone still on those versions when the 4Gb cards became available.

I was checking the SanDisk site and this is what I found a 6gb although it might not work with the pearl. At least with the current OS.

There is a compatability check at the bottom of the page.
Here's the link.
