Default GMail via BIS: Dumping old email into inbox?

Please Login to Remove!

I have an 8830 on BIS and have GMail setup as one of my email accounts. Everything was working perfect until last week. All of a sudden, 196 old messages were dumped into my message inbox on the BB.

It happened again last Saturday, around 200 old messages dumped into my messages on the BB all at once. The BB sat there buzzing for over 20 minutes.

At that point, I went online to GMail. Cleaned out all my GMail folders (online at gmail.com), deleted stuff in the spam folder, deleted all drafts I had saved, and finally archived all old email in my inbox (I had 500+ msgs in my inbox).

I even went to the Verizon BIS site, removed my GMail account, and added it back as sort of a "reset".

Then it happened again last night around 8 PM!!!!! 190+ messages, dumped to my BB all at once.

What's going on?

MP, I, too, find that odd. Different carrier here and no gmail, but last Saturday night about 300 old emails from last August were dumped back to my BB. They were still sitting on my email server, but they were read and the BB had gotten them as well during that original time period. I wish I knew a reason.

I've had the same problem, figured out how to replicate the issue, and have an open ticket with RIM. It's been escalated several times and they don't have a solution yet that I'm aware of.

It is a known issue however and does not happen on all phones/gmail accounts/carriers.

I'm on AT&T with BIS and using GMail.

I dont know if this would work or not, and I am definitely no expert on BlackBerries and what not since I recently switched.. however maybe this will work....

Goto your GMail settings, Forwarding and POP, under POP Download, select "Enable POP only for mail that arrives from now on."

Obviously this might not work because it is for POP email when this is push email, but it might be the solution if it somehow works

Just an FYI, guys and gals, this is not unique to Blackberries/RIM devices. Prior to makign the switch to a Blackberry, I had a Windows Mobile device (A motorola q). It happened once in a while on that device as well. I wish I knew what I did to get it to stop, because it quit happening to me and hasn't happened since I've been on a BB, but whatever the cause is, it's not unique to RIM.

I know that's not much help, but thought ya'll may want to know.

Exclamation

I use Gmail on my 8820 and have not encountered this.

You should definitely reset your POP3 and IMAP(disable, save, then enable and save) in the gmail account settings online.

Yeah, this happened to me last night. Something is up with GMail lately. I actually got the same email about 5 times and it was definitely gone from the GMail server.

Default Ideas?

This began happening to some users we have starting about 2 to 3 weeks ago. We added Exchange 2007 servers about the same time to our previously Exchange 2003 only enviornment- not sure if it had anything to do with it- I doubt it because only a couple of test mailboxes were ever setup.

The users have different devices, Verizon and Cingular, and all connect to our company email via the Outlook Web Access folder.

Emails come in originally dated as far back as 2 years ago, some just a few months or weeks old. Some people are getting really annoyed.

The emails only show up on the device, not in their real mailbox.

Exclamation Dumping old Email on BlackBerry Widespread Problem

I have the same exact problem and get email dated back to 2004 dumped to my Blackberry. My email is not gmail however, and I use imap. I do have over 20,000 messages in my imap INBOX and I am wondering if large INBOXes may be causing the problem. At any rate, I do not believe it is carrier problem or gmail (or any specific email provider) problem. I believe RIM needs to move a bit faster to figure out the source of this problem and provide a fix. I literally am unable to use my BB email.
