Default Blackberry Maps

Please Login to Remove!

I cannot get anything other than diagonal lines when I open Blackberry maps on my 8800. I have downloaded a current version of the maps from the Blackberry website which I believe have installed but they still do not appear.

Do I need to subscribe to a service or otherwise is there a switch that I need to activate on my device?

I have managed to get google maps working quite easily.

Thanks

Could be that your TCP settings are not correct. Could also be that your carrier is blocking the maps data

Mine does the same thing from time to time. Do you give it a good two minutes to fire up? Sometimes it will also take exiting and relaunching to get it working.

Default Thanks

Thanks for the input. I still cannot seem to get it working so I have tried Google maps which appears to be working fine, although it eats the battery life.

I appear to have an icon at the top of the screen which is the figure 1 with a world image beside it. Is this something to do with the google maps as I have not seen it before installing them and what does it signify?

Does BBMaps appear to be ok otherwise....Can you open menus, change and save settings, etc? but just can't download maps. Or does the app seem FUBAR?

Have you tried the ol' hard reset (battery pull)?

Perhaps your carrier is blocking it, as other poster suggests, but seems odd that it would be blocked but not google maps.

Default Blackberry Maps

I have just done a test. I can open all the menus, change settings, zoom in and out etc.

If I open the Blackberry Maps application and stand in my garden I can see that the GPS grabs up to 10 satellites. If I then move around the north arrow changes accordingly and the miles per hour indicates my speed. I have also waited about 10 minutes for the maps to update/load but to no effect. Everything appears to be working except the map display as it is still just diagonal lines.

If I open Google maps then I get the appropriate map loaded within a couple of seconds and can also see myself moving about in the form of a blue flashing dot. I can work out routes and zoom in and out and change to satellite views etc

The Blackberry maps has never worked since I got the blackberry.

Wirelessly posted (8700g: BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

umtyman, can you get a map by selecting 'go to' from the BBMaps menu and entering an address?

When I try that, it searches and then returns back to the search screen with *empty* displayed in the lower field so I cannot get a map.

BlackBerry -

Follow this link - the areas that are covered by BB Maps are listed there. In all other places you will get only lines

Default BB Maps

I am in the UK. The map download requested which country at the time of download.

If I connect my Blackberry to my PC and try to install the maps I get the message that this does not need to be done which I assume means I have the maps already installed.
