Add ons, gadgets and third party software for 8700 series
Please Login to Remove!
I can see bits and pieces of this discussion scattered about so if there is no objection this thread will deal with 8700 stuff.
A couple of questions I have:
1) What is the difference between an 8703e and 8703c?? How many are in this series??
2) I would like to buy a larger keyboard for my 8703e, perhaps a fold out type that will make it easier to take notes......what your you guys using and what would you recommend?
3) While using the keyboard what program would be best to type into?
4) I just signed up for Beyond 411:
Beyond411 Mobile Search
So far looks pretty good.
What else is knocking your socks off??
Thanks

I use the ThinkOutside Stowaway bluetooth Keyboard, I bought from a user on this board, ChineseCatt, real good deal, less expensive than other retail sites... Look for her user name in the members list and you'll see the link to her retail site. I am mobile now and don't have it handy. Good luck.
EDIT: Here is the link. Very credible retailer.

2) I just use the BB keyboard for input (can go pretty fast). If you want an external keyboard, check the Sponsors section for Freedom Input. They have a pretty slick keyboard.
3) I second that....huh?
4) Beyond411 is awesome! I have that plus BBWeather, JiveTalk, Google Maps, and TeleNav. You can also download some free stuff (games, ringtones, wallpaper) from http: // mobile.blackberry.com

1. Dunno..
2. I think there is only one alternative to the Blackberry key pad. Its a bluetooth keyboard Blackberry Data Input - BlackBerry Bluetooth Folding Keyboard
3. Dynoplex has some great programs if you afford the initial investment. Otherwise the Notepad that is built in works fine for me..
4. I use BB411 a lot.. If you have instant messaging needs I also use Jivetalk beejive :: JiveTalk mobile messaging or here in the forums at http://www.blackberryforums.com/afte...plication.html
Other than that you'll have to take a look at the aftermarket software forum and find out what people are raving or complaining about..

You can always find specs and compare devices at Blackberry.com.
The 8703 e is the CDMA version of the 87xx series. There are quite a few devices in the series. I don't know if I can recall all off the top of my head but here are some:
8700
8703
8705
8707
The letter generally designates carrier but it's not always exclusive (several carriers offer the 8700g, for example). Devices with the same model number (ignoring the letter) are the same internally and their OS's can be cross-loaded, if desired.

Except in the case of 8703e where it designates the network, EVDO.

I was looking for an app that would be good to type into and store documents for future retrieval.
Lots more to learn.

What's TeleNav do? (I'd guess some GPS-directions/mapping equivalent, but I see you have Google Maps mentioned, too, which is sort of the poor-man's non-GPS mapping)

The new version of Google Maps has BT GPS option. So, it is a GPS mapping program.

The link to this keyboard is our older Original Freedom keyboard. This keyboard is being phased out now as the hardware manufacturer is no longer in business.
Our newer Freedom Uniiversal has replaced this keyboard and has dual profile SPP/HID so it will work with your Blackberry and with Windows Mobile devices, Windows XP PC's etc.
Freedom Input is a Blackberry Alliance partner and has the most up to date compatibility list for the Freedom Universal keyboard.

Galvatron, Jimispier,
Thank you for sharing your positive opinions. If youre looking into pruchasing of any products by Dynoplex, let me know I will arrange a discount for you.
BB real estate guy,
eWord will perfectly suit your needs to type using a keyboard and store files. eWord is cheaper than eOffice - 59,95 $, but if get in touch with our customer care (support@dynoplex.com) you may get 10 % off this price.

Keyboard for 8700 series/ 8703e from Man Machine
I have purchased the coolmir keyboard from man-machine and have been successful in the install of drivers for the 8703e; I say this as the 8703e is not listed in the compatable divice listing. I have used now for several weeks and it is wonderful. I recommend this device to anyone who is looking for a very cool, functional keyboard.
Man-Machine web site
Ota link OTA CoolMIR Driver
Tested BlackBerrys :
Handheld software version 4.0 or higher BlackBerry 6210, 6220, 6230, 6280, 6510, 7100g, 7100i, 7100r, 7100t, 7100v, 7100x, 7105t, 7210, 7230, 7250, 7270, 7280, 7290, 7510, 7520, 8700c, 8700g, 8700r and 8707 . I have tested and ran on 8703e with great success.
Special Note: Follow the installation instruction to the "T" otherwise you will have problems.
