Default Bouncing from EDGE to GPRS

Anyone else on Cingular keep bouncing back and forth from EDGE to GPRS?
I will go from 4 bars on EDGE to 5 on GPRS. I thought you had to be at zero bars on EDGE to drop back to GPRS?

You thought wrong. Coverage strength is not necessarily correlated to maintaining an EDGE connection.

I've never had a problem with it before, always held an EDGE connection.
I just recently upgrade to the telefonica 4.2 ver.Might have to try the Optus, or go back to 4.1 to see if it clears up.

I remember my Pearl went out like that a few months ago. T-mobile told me it was a data issue and they corrected it within hours. Cingular seems to be having the same trouble in some spots that they had with the widespread outage just last week.
