Default 7130c - stuck in CAPS-lock for dialing telephone #'s

Please Login to Remove!

I apologize if this is a repeat question; I searched and didn't find help.

THE PROBLEM: I am trying to dial a telephone number. First, when I try to enter a number by pressing the numbers on the key pad, nothing happens. In the top right corner there is a large "up" arrow.

When I press the shift key (bottom left key with arrow pointing down), a "1-2-3" button appears, encouraging me to hit the numbers again. When I then hit a number, a capital letter is entered instead. I've tried hitting the bottom "one-in-from-the-right" button, i.e., the caps button below #. I get a #, which doesn't help.

So, I'm stuck in no response or CAPS only, and can't dial out unless I shift to the address book and, luckily, have the number there that I want to dial.

This has happened before, spontaneously, and has gone away, again spontaneously -- at least I don't know what made it go away.

I've tried shutting down and restarting. Nothing. I've left if off overnight, again hoping the thing would reset. Zip.

I could just wait for it to spontaneously go back to normal, but that seems pretty darn primitive -- and unpredictably slow.

Any suggestions welcome. Tx in advance.

hold down the bottom left button while entering the numbers... are you in the phone screen or are you in the message screen?

Default Tx 4 Reply

I Am In Phone Screen, And Tried Holding Bottom Left Key Down, Still No Input To Phone Number Space. Also, Fwiw, When I Shift To My Email Messages, And Try To Scroll To The Top (or Bottom), The Result Is That I "highlight" All Of The Messages I Scroll Over, And Then Am Confronted With An Option To Erase All Messages - No!!

Hope This Helps Clarify Problem. Tx Again.

I have a 7130c and have tried to re-create your problem, but had no luck. Have you tried holding down the * key, as if switching to multitap, and/or holding down the shift key?

Default Tx again, but ...

...I tried that and no luck. Now I dont even get caps when i type in dial mode. Just a blank screen where the number is supposed to appear. One part of the keyboard works in this mode -- the auto dial. So, for instance, i can dial and hold 1 and get to my voice mails. But even then the OP (top right) key for speaker phone doesn't work. I am planning to take this pup to Cingular in the am and say fix or swap.

Have you tried pulling the battery, holding down the power button for 30 seconds, and then powering it back up? Sometimes a hard reset will fix it.
