Default New Tmobile on Cingy - White Too! - OS Upgrade???

Please Login to Remove!

I went ahead and pulled the trigger and got a white, unlocked T-Mobile pearl to use on Cingy to replace the black one. Is there any overwhelming reason I should consider upgrading the OS from .64 to the current Cingy version? I haven't run the phone through all its paces but, so far I can't see any issues that need fixing. I do like the T-Mo Zen theme a little better than the BB Dimension Zen on my other pearl...

As for those who have shunned the white version, I actually quite like it. It is really sort of a mother-of-pearl finish instead of gloss white (although the gloss might have been nice too), but to those that think it shows dirt too easily.. not so fast. I think it shows less. My black one showed smudges very easily where this one does not. I guess if you are in the trenches and have dirty hands it could be a problem but for me a desk job guy, it will be fine for me.

Just curious as to what the total cost was to obtain such an item (Pearl w/o a contract, plus an unlocking fee). And where did you get it? Ebay?

The latest Cingular version fixes the issue with memory leaks. It also improved my battery life significantly.

Unfortunately it's not cheap to do this. At least not yet. I didn't look around too much as I had some surplus paypal funds and decided to spend some. So yes, it was on ebay. There are only a few people that are selling them already unlocked. I paid $385...

I understand that, but is having the latest always a compelling reason to do the upgrade? (think Microsoft, etc.). The only thing I've found that has a minor bug, is the service light indication (which I need) sometimes turns itself off, possibly after reaching a full charge. This is NOT enough for me to do the upgrade by itself. Those that have a T-Mobile pearl (unlocked?) and have done this upgrade, I would like to know if they have found ANY downside to this upgrade at all.

Thanks,
Mike
