Default Use Pearl as a USB VOIP Phone?

Please Login to Remove!

Guys is it possible to use the Pearl as a USB VOIP phone say with SKYPE?

I need to make VOIP calls and am wondering. If not possible can anyone help me out? I just don't know anything about VOIP.

I want to make only outbound calls from a VOIP for free preferably to landline and cell phones.
It would be nice if it could block my outgoing number sometimes also.

Thanks in advance.

there would have to be a blackberry app to do skype on the phone.

block your outgoing number? only the person you are calling wont see it, but the government sees all, remember.

since its only for outgoing, you could tether your phone to your pc as a modem and use skype probably, but you probably want a portable solution. in that case there would have to be an app for it. also, the phone company might not even allow it. what would stop people from just buying the data plan and using skype all the time?

Unfortunately BB Peral does not support UMTS and WiFi. with only EDGE VOIP is not possible, too long PINGs.
If you want to call people abroad better try some calling cards.

I just want to make calls from my pc. to people in the USA. This is just to save $$$$.

I guess I should just buy a USB phone and download skype?

Anyone have good experience with certain models? I dont want it to sound like a tin can or anything.

Thanks!

sorry, that phone just doesnt look as good as the pearl. the wifi is awesome, but its another wide-ass blackberry. i cant stand the phones that look like squares. i mean it seems like a great phone, but the pearl i dont think will be beat for general everyday use. the 8800 seems more like a business phone, the pearl is like a consumer type.

VoIP can work over an EDGE connection depending on the voice codec used... user friendly applications like skype don't give much in the way of options here. I use a SIP client runing on my PC to connect to my company's PBX over my Samsung t809's data connection all the time... granted there are sometimes noticable breaks in the audio, but its useable.
