Okay, before you guys rag on me, I know I made a mistake and I know that. About a week ago I jumped ship to the T-Mobile MDA. I thought I had made a good choice but I didn't. The text messages stopped working, the battery life died within 2 hours, and I had swapped the unit out 2 times. I decided to come back to my good old blackberry. I then remembered that I sold them (my bb's) on ebay. I decided I am going to trade in my MDA (because of the 14 day grace period) and I can't decide between the 8100 and the 8700. I love the qwerty keyboard more than the suretype keyboard, but I love the media capibilities of the 8100. Can you guys give me your advice on what I should do?

Personally, I love the 8100. I don't care about about the multimedia features. I love the size of the handheld, awesome display, voice dialing, BB Maps, and most of all the trackball. Don't get me wrong, I like the 8700 as well.

Ya, I do like the size of the 8100. I also like how stable the 8700 is. I just want both of them in one device (hint hint 8800)

well, my friend has one and i played with it and i THOUGHT it had a better os. also, i kind of liked the slide-away qwerty keypad. now i know i will never use anything but blackberry, ever.

If you have the money, its sometimes good to experiment and try new things.

Your question of course depends on your needs. Both devices are an excellent choice. Although the audio (for phone use) seems a tad better to me on the 8100.

The MDA can be appealing at a glance, and if you talk to a sales rep they can make it seem like the ultimate solution. But don't be seduced by the dark side! The 8100 is about $100 cheaper than the 8700 so figure that into your calculations. I have the 8100 and love it, but it is tiny. And SureType is something to get used to. I do, however, have my eye on the 8800 when it's available. Best of both worlds.

Ask yourself what your priorities are in a device, what you can live with, what you can live without, and whether there are any showstoppers with either device in light of these things.

Bottom line there are pros and cons to both.

Before you choose, I recommend going into a T-Mo store and touching them. Get a feel of what they're like. Stick 'em in your pocket. Pretend like you're using them. Get a sense of how they will work in real life. Unless you just want to throw away several hundred dollars again.

I never used the 8700. So I have no opinion on that phone. I have 8100 and I love it!

yes i did throw away several hundred dollars, but they said i can trade it in. thanks to everyone. i think i am going to get the 8700 because i dont really need all the camera and media functionality. plus i have a samsung t809 if i need to take pics or whatever. i also have an ipod for music. (you could say that im a tech geek). I am sorry if my title offended anyone, i will change it. i dont look down to those who are mentally challenged, i was just soooo confused i didnt even think. i am sorry.

don't worry ... i too did this . i had my BB 7290 , 8700c , and treo . i then decided that i needed ( yeah , right ) a windows mobile device so i got the MDA twin .... the cingular 8125 . boy what a mess that was , no email pushed unless i used microsoft exchange ... which i have to pay for by the way . and the device was about as stable as a marriage with a street walker!
needless to say .... i'm back to my beloved BB and understand where you're coming from ... with that said ... just go back to the champion of reliability , function , and everyday usability with the Blackberry . whatever BB you prefer , just keep it Blackberry . i personally need a QWERTY keyboard for my fat fingers so the 8700 is the one for me ... the 7290 is also my favorite . i do like the features of the 8100 but its just not for me . so good luck .

I couldn't bring myself to get a Pearl, either, though I could have. My husband would have freaked ... lol. He freaked when I told him I was going to replace my 8700c with a 7130c but I did sell a couple things to cover the cost...anyway, I played with a Pearl. I love the trackball and I think I could adjust to the size of it, but I actually felt it was way too small after having an 8700.
So, my plan is to use the 7130c for while, possibly until the 8800 arrives and if I dig that, then I can use my upgrade. I am eligible in a matter of weeks. Trouble with a capital T. I've had 16 different phones this year. I gotta stop.
But, in the end, I keep going back to the Berry. I just love it. But, you know what I'm talking about.
Enjoy your 8700 and be sure to get a good case for it. Don't be afraid to splurge and get a Fortte or Piel Frama (sp?). You don't want yours flying into a toilet. Em, anyway. Yeah.

as my home boy would say "IS U NUTS" go for the 8700 hands down. yea ok great you can listen to mp3 but the 8700 screen size and the full keyboard and the abilty to write a book on that sucker should be a clear sign that the 8700 is the winner
