I am not sure if the Blackberry handhelds support Japanese out-of-the-box. We use a program called namimail to translate Japanese. Can you check to see which application is installed on the 7250?

Default japanese char

Hi.

We have no program extra installed on the 7250 and it works, thats why it was confusing. out of the box it worked so i was so amazed when the 8700 did not.

Default japanese char

I found that on the bberry 7250 there is a program called Korean font and character support installed by default when I received the bberry from Verizon, however no such program was in applications when i received the 8700c from Cingular. Can this program be downloaded and installed on the 8700c? seems like it would be an easy thing to fix, not sure why it did not come with it?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0) BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

Most likely cingular requests not to install japanese character. You can download the 4.1.x os for CSL which it is a wireless carrier provider in hong kong. The os supports chinese, japanese and english. I am going to try it tonight on my 8700g.

I actually just did this and it worked like a charm. After you install the device software for the CSL handheld, copy all the files from that directory to your handheld model's directory. Make sure to NOT overwrite any files. Then launch the Application Loader and install the Japanese language support.

Just to add, you'll have Japanese input support by the end of Q2 next year.

I downloaded the chinese language rather than multi-language. the chinese language included Chinese / Japanese / English

By the way, if you install it successfully, can you pls check if you can receive and read chinese email correctly? I spent few hours last night trying to figure it out how to receive / display chinese email correctly, but I did not get any luck. However, I could browse the chinese and japanese sites (Yahoo! JAPAN) without any problems. all characters showed up correctly.

by the way, i have a 8700g on TMO
