Unhappy How to attach a pic from the camera via BES email?

Please Login to Remove!

Ok so I tried taking a pic of my office with the 8100 (Pearl) I just bought this morning, and send it to myself via email.

It says "This service does not support native attachment"? We're running a BES server, latest version etc. Anyone know what to do? If I try sending it using my Gmail account which is also associated with it, it works fine if somewhat delayed.

Also if I compose a new email, it defaults to sending from my Gmail address instead of my corporate email address, unless they're within my organization, which isn't good.

Help?

Sorry to double post, but our attachment server works fine. If I send myself an email from my outlook and then forward it to myself from the 8100, it's fine. Opening PDF's and .Doc files work fine too. I just can't email pics taken by the phone through my BES account?

I noticed this also. I could not attach a photo from my BES account but I could from my AOL account…

You think it needs an upgrade to the BES software? I checked the IT policy there's nothing about it. There's nothing on google about it. We're breaking new ground here. Methinks the 8100 can't natively send its own photos. :/ That would really suck.

Can I ask if you're using BES 4.0 or 4.1? And Definitely not using BIS?

We're going to look at upgrading perhaps if this is the issue.

Can I ask why? What is upgraded between 4.0 and 4.1 in BES that allows this? Thanks!

How are you attaching your picture? From within the camera app, if I take a picture, and hit the email icon, it defaults to sending with MMS and no other options. If I go create a new email, there is no option to attach anything. I am on BES 4.0.

I updated to 4.0 SP5a this evening and after re-pushing the IT Policy, it's still not working. Does anyone know exactly what BES setting needs to be enabled/modified for this to work? Or is it ONLY going to work with 4.1?

After speaking with other people you definitely need 4.1+ for it to work.

And does it just work then on 4.1...or any additional changes to the policy or attachment service required?

Emailing files from the handheld requires BES 4.1 SP2 or higher and Handheld software 4.2 (8100 is the only one with it). Currently SP2 is only available for Exchange.

Umm... you might wanna do some reading up on the Upgrade to 4.1 from 4.0. I thought this was just a simple upgrade (like a service pack etc) but it was very far from it. 4.1 is a complete revamp of the BES Manager... everything changes, there are changes to your database, etc... you should look into it first or at least make sure you have your BES Support number handy.

And it just came out on the 12th... I've been trying to download it for 2 days now (225megs) and the stupid connection keeps dying on me. I'll download the service pack tonight at home and bring it into work tomorrow.

Have you played with it yet? I heard at the Wireless Symposium this year that once everything reaches 4.2, you'll be able to play back *.wav attachments in e-mails? THAT is gonna be nice... with our running Ciscos VOIP platform... can't wait.
