I don't know about Verizon but I know a few people in the US who use it on Cingular or T Mobile and here in Canada I have a co worker on Rogers Wireless who use their BlackBerries without a data plan. They use it as their phone and pda.

I would try to call back and tell the next CS agent you don't want a data plan and it was added by mistake. try a few times if it doesnt work right away. I have done so on a number of issues and have gotten it resolved by simply calling again to a different agent. If it is really not working threaten to cancell your service if they do not let u on a no-data plan. My guess is they would rather u a customer than not.

You definitly can use your BlackBerry as a phone only - just call Verizon back and tell them you don't want to use it for email - phone only. There's no reaosn they won't be able to do that for you

No true! They could have a policy such as NEXTEL where as if you have a BlackBerry you require a Data Package. If you don't it will be added for you, in some cases without knowledge until your next bill arrives.

Default went to VZW site

ordered a 7250 with voice and txt message option only. did not order a data package. I went to the end right before I supplied payment info. So it appears it is possible to buy a 7250 without data, at least online.

The policy is that all devices such as the Blackberry must have a data plan on it. There is the 10MB for $25 ($30 if no voice plan) or Unlimited for $45 ($50 if no voice plan).

You may be able to get on a pay as you go plan for I think $0.015 per KB, but I would hate to be you if your device uses data for some unkown reason in the background.

Besides, what is the point of a Blackberry without a data plan? That's the whole point of the Blackberry.

Finch, VZW will let you buy without a data plan, but they will warn you that the device will internally use small amounts of data transer and that for those and for any inconsequential usages you will be charged on a per kilobyte basis at the rate of $0.015 per KB, I know because I did it for a while for my son when he was trying out a BB for size (He did not like it BTW).
