Default value of a "launch party" 8700c?

Please Login to Remove!

a friend has an unsused 8700c from the launch party he is trying to sell me for use on cingular (i currently am using treo 650 on cingular)

anybody have an estimate of the resale value of this (as different from the stock 8700c- since everything i have read suggests that this version cannot be unlocked)

thanx

I think it should be able to be unlocked, there is a service that will unlock them for about $35.00

As for the estimate resale value, unlocked I think they are going for about $350.00 when they are brand new. You will be able to get a general idea if you went to the Buy, Sell and Trade thread.

Actually I recalled Adam (GSMPhoneSource where I unlocked my 8700c) stated on his web site that "lauch party" 8700c cannot be unlocked. Is that still the case?

Launch party IMEIs are stored elsewhere, I believe Adam only has access to regular 8700c database.

Personally, the value of a launch unit is much lower since it seems that Bongo would have to unlock it.

Does a launch party unit bear any special distinction?

I put in an unlock request with Cingular about 8 days ago...still nothing. Here was my deal though....I have one of the 'custom' made 8700c (RIM's dust issue replacement). Cingular did not have my imei correct...they still had my old 8700. They said they would put in a request at RIM for the code.....my guess is this is the same with the release party 8700c's as well.

Good luck...I still haven't had any!
