Default 7130 ringtones lock up

Please Login to Remove!

OK, this is a weird one. I missed a call or 2 last week and determined that my custom ringtone (mp3) wasnt playing. I couldnt play any mp3's from the Profiles, Show Tunes menu at all. The ringtones that came on the phone worked and the 1 midi ringtone I have also worked, just no mp3's. So I rebooted and no change. Then I popped the battery out for a hard boot and viola mp3's played again. Over the weekend, the same thing happened again. No ringy dingy till I yanked the battery.

Has anyone else experienced this? It may be that I have bad mp3 that is doing it. I took the Beatles "Help" and used Audio Scissors to cut the intro down so the ring is just "Help, I need somebody...." Is this worth reporting to VZW support?

Wirelessly posted (7130e VZW: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0) BlackBerry7130e/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

No, it isn't worth reporting to VZW because there is a fix. This issue is posted about all over these forums and the simple solution is to update your handheld's OS with the latest VZW version.

Forgive me for not reading "all over these forums" gdpmumin. Reporting it to VZW would have actually resulted in them being able to help after all huh? Since they were happy to take my money for the unit, I would expect they should be able to support it.

Sorry to be a pain, but the search function works quite well when given a chance. So you wouldn't necessarily have had to read all over the forums; just do a search.

Give VZW a call and ask a BB tech about mp3 ringtones not working properly and you'll be deafened by the silence, unless the individual tech is a cut above the rest. But generally, they know very little about the specific quirks of specific models. So, no, they probably would not be able to support you with a solution to the problem.

Bottom line: upgrade the OS and your problem will be solved.

Actually the serch doesnt work quite so well as you think. Search for "7130 mp3 problem", "7130 mp3 lockup", "7130 mp3 update", "7130 OS upgrade" and see if that addresses my post. Foolishly I didnt search for "7130 ringtone problem" - oh wait, that one yielded no results either. Or if I search more than once in 20 seconds it flips you the bird. I'm sorry it was so much bother for you to read my post. And I thank you for making the great effort to reply. I'm not asking for anyone to google the friggin internet for me - I'm a big boy and can do that myself - but unlike some I havent read and memorized every post on this site.

<45 minutes later>Oh I found it... "7130 no sound" was the key. Who would have thunk that since I have sound, I should search for this. sheeeeesh

Thumbs up

Again, I'm not trying to be a pain, but try "7130 ringtones". Didn't take 45 minutes to find it. And there are several cursory mentions about the issue in many other threads. A tip: more general search terms generate the most helpful results. Search terms that are too specific (like the ones you used) sometimes aren't all that helpful.

Haven't read and memorized every post on here. I have a life and a job. But I do know my way around the BB and the search function.

Good luck on the OS update.
