Encryption on Card and Bridging files Query
Please Login to Remove!
I have encrypted my media card on the BB device for data excluding media, and I download an attachment when bridged which is a email attachment. Once downloaded, I am unable to open this file on playbook once I bridge for files.
any ideas how i can get this to work but I definately want to keep encryption on the BB device card.

Re: Encryption on Card and Bridging files Query
It is working for me. Earlier software versions did not. If you are not running the latest PB OS and latest bridge app, that would be the first thing to look at.
Also, I have my encryption set to use device password only. I don't know if that could matter or not. If you have yours set to device key or device key + device password, thag might also be something to look at.

Re: Encryption on Card and Bridging files Query
I also have an encrypted 32GB media card and I can access files from the bridge browser (PDF, PPTX, etc). I do not have media encrypted and I also use only the device password for the encryption type.
Running 6.0.0.600 on a 9800BB with the latest bridge and PBOS.

Re: Encryption on Card and Bridging files Query
ok - i will check, it could be that the OS on the playbook I am trying is older.

Re: Encryption on Card and Bridging files Query
ok, here is an update and more information...
This playbook was originally purchased in US when the device was just released, but I have updated the OS to 1.0.7 and bridge software on device 9700 is 1.0.4.9 which is latest. When not Encrypted, all is working fine, but as soon as I encrypt the card as device, Bridging is ok, but when trying to open a attachement and you click on "tap to download" the bar appears for a moment and then "tap to download" reappears. If i look at the messge on the BB, it has a red X and if I open the message i see "Attachment download IO Error as the status.
I have another playbook bought here in UK, and i am able to bridge and open these attachments fine using the same BES Encryption policy.
I got the same issue/error when using the users 9700 bridged onto the Playbook bought in UK. I upgraded the OS to 6.0.0 on the BB and that made no difference.
I am running out of ideas what it could be. I am going to try formatting the media card on the 9700 and bridge it with any of the Playbooks and see if problem persists.
any advice would be very much appreciated how we can resolve this.

Re: Encryption on Card and Bridging files Query
It just dawned on me that have been talking about attachments. Can you see and open files with the bridge browser that are already on the card?

Re: Encryption on Card and Bridging files Query
Using bridge Files, I can on the playbook bought in UK under media card\blackberry\documents\bridge see the opened attachements and open them. However, on the problem one purchased in US, there are no files in that path instead they are placed in media card\blackberry\documents and can't open the files (last time I tried, but i will try again and post the exact behaviour)

Re: Encryption on Card and Bridging files Query
I'm at a loss. You mention BES. I am not on BES and have no policy on my 9700. I suspect that is a clue, but I have no ideas why one PlayBook is a problem and the other is not. I wonder about the software feature variation depending on the location you specify at setup, but I don't know enough to know if that is worth looking at for an explanation. I'm stumped.

Re: Encryption on Card and Bridging files Query
figured it out, can't believe it was that simple. the media card was being used on the BB as normal (no Encryption), the user was added to the Encryption policy with the assumption that it will encrypt teh card, which it did, but cause the problem mentioned. All i did was format the card and start again - guess the card had to be formatted as encrypted rather than just applying the encryption on an existing card which was formatted before encryption was applied.

Re: Encryption on Card and Bridging files Query
It appears that formatting the card corrected the problem, but I doubt it was in the way you think. You should have been able to start with even a new card without trouble.
When encryption for the media card is enabled, files written to the card by the BlackBerry will be encrypted from that point forward. Files on the card prior to encryption being enabled that are not encrypted will remain not encrypted. If encryption is later disabled, the encrypted files will remain encrypted, and new files written to the card by the BlackBerry will not be encrypted. As far as I know, there is no difference between formatting with encryption enabled and formatting with encryption disabled. It is individual files that are encrypted, or not, and not the card.

Re: Encryption on Card and Bridging files Query
Agree. Sometimes you have to try stuff whether it makes total sense or not. Formatting the card was a smart hunch, no matter the exact problem that was fixed by doing so.
