Default 9780 "Lock" feature

my biggest pet peeve of this phone....i only want the device to lock when i manually lock the device myself....not after any pre-determined time....

unfortunately i dont think this is possible....it WAS possible on my 8310....

they should have a "never" option when selecting when the phone locks automatically....

It does - and I use it that way all the time (screen/keyboard lock)...by pressing the top left button. Is that the lock you are referring to, or are you looking for a manual security lock that was available on OS5 and earlier ?

thanks but that is not what i mean....i mean locking the phone so nobody can use it....locking it so you need to enter your password to use it....right now i have it set to lock after one hour which is the highest amount of time but i dont even want that....i only want it to lock when i lock it manually but apparently you cant do that....very annoying....

At least one thing you can do is set the time out to the max time period. That may be an hour. Then manually lock it when you want.

You may have this keypad shortcut, I don't know. You'll need to turn off the language shortcut, or change it, then try alt-return. Unless RIM has changed it, that should work.

Also, with dial from home turned off, the 'K' shortcut used to lock the device when a password is enabled. Somewhere along the line in OS 5 that disappeared. I don't know if it has been added back in later versions (I'm on 9700/5.0.0.714), but give it a try.

Are you on a BES? If so, are you sure that the lock is driven by the device and not an IT policy? We have a similar policy that locks and asks for a password after 30 minutes. Royal pain.

Doesn't work on OS6, unfortunately.
