Default HELP - BlackBerry Freezes all the time

Please Login to Remove!

Hello,

I have a BlackBerry Storm and it freezes all the time. This results in me having to pull and replace the battery. Any ideas why it's doing this?

Thanks

It may take some detective work on your part. Look for clues.

What are you doing/running when it happens?

Take a look at your applications and identify those that are set to run in the background when closed. If you can, change the setting so the app actually exits when closed and does not go to run in the background.

What third-party apps and/or themes have you installed? And especially anything installed prior to the problem starting?

You may end up uninstalling third-party apps one at a time to see if you can identify one that is the problem. If you are using an aftermarket theme, switch to a stock theme for a while and see what happens.

Make sure you are using the most current OS (see top). Also, please inform me as to what apps you are using? Something may need to be removed or at least updated.

Phil24,

Try a low level whipe and fresh O/S install with the latest OS. I used BBSAK (Blackberry Swiss Army Knife) for low level whipes. Its a free app you can find with a Google search.

Then reload your contacts ONLY. Do not reload your settings and programs from the manager. As time consuming as it may be, take the time to manually set your settings and individually reinstall your programs. This will prevent you from restoring any conflicts that are causing your lockups.

This should end your problems. But you are in a model that RIM has turned its back on for the most part. If you aren't married to touchscreen technology my suggestion is to go to anther model Blackberry phone that is currently supported. If you are a big smart phone aficionado, go to either Android or iPhone. Both are far better and well supported.

On my Storm 9530, it seemed a battery pull a day was quite normal. Sadly, battery pulls are a way of life with Blackberry.
In the end, I whiped and eliminated EVERY program I did not use. I made my 9530 a bare bones unit and it did make a big difference in stability. The biggest suspect of mischief on the phone are the VZW apps, ESPECIALLY VZ Navigator. DELETE that PITA immediately.
Morning battery pulls kept me running smooth until I transitioned to the Droid X. Now the battery pull tradition is no more.
