Default High Availability Configuration - 5-6 minute downtime between failures

Please Login to Remove!

Hello everyone,
I have a few questions regarding BES high availability. I tested the HA and it seems to work but takes about 5-6 minutes for the standby to run as primary. I can see that the health checks fail but I'm unable to find any feature that allows you to speed up the promotion of the standby.

Anyone able to shed some light?

I'll just ask a stupid question here.

What industry are you in that a 5 minute interruption to BB service will be a) noticed and b) detrimental to the business?

Not trying to be snarky here, but just that in heartbeat technology, iy sometimes takes time to start all the required services on the standby host.

I understand that it might not be detrimental to business, but I'd like to know if that's the way it's intended to work. For example, is there a way to speed up the process so that takes 2 minutes?

How fast the failover takes place depends on many factors. For example, the close proximity between the 2 BES servers, how fast the network is, how fast the computers are... If every items are tip top super fast, then a failover will be faster.

Does a failover cause a rescan of all mailboxes?

My failover takes just the right amount of time. The point at which I start thinking "I've broken it now, it's not failing over. DAMNIT!". Our BES has failed over a few times (external influences) and I only noticed because it generates about 12 e-mail alerts at a time.
