I sympathize. I don't care for this "improved" version either.
It is not intuitive and takes some getting used to. For a while I thought that message forwarding was no longer available. Then I found that if you 'click' in the message ITSELF, then you get a little blue highlight and forwarding option becomes available.
There's quite a few things like this, things that either require fairly intensive reading of some manual... (did you save one... or even get one that's useful?) or some rather insightful fooling around until something changes.
It's like a darn video game where you get obtuse clues to things- but you don't know they're even clues until you fortuitously take a correct second step; consecutively of course. You have to re-do things just right sometimes or nothing new happens. Ain't it fun?
