Angry My BB chirps in my ear!

Please Login to Remove!

I am on my 4th BB 8330. I just replaced my 3rd one 3 hours ago. I came home and transferred my info to my new one and its doing the same thing. It chirps in my ear during a conversation. it has happened anywhere between 3 seconds to 20 minutes for the first chirp. It is not the minute counter or a new message or call waiting. It sounds like an electronic chirp and is loud. Help!

Are you getting incoming text messages while on the phone?
Check your profile for 'Notify Me During Calls" setting on SMS messages.

No, the 8330 is not capable of transmitting data and voice simultaneously.

It is not anything to do with a message or counter. 3 different Verizon reps have never heard anything like it before.

Are you definitely sure it's not Call Waiting?

This happens to me all the time. Ever since I upgraded to OS v.4.5.0.175. It never happened in versions .138 or .77. What OS version do you have?

I had this issue with my 8330, this is what worked for me.

Go to your phone, open the menu and go to options then ----> sounds
On "Privacy Alert" change it to "No"

Mine was set to "Yes" and it chirped in my ear during a call. Once I set it to "No" it quit doing it. Try that and see what happens

Found the setting you were referring to and it's set to None so I guess its a bug with this OS version.

No. The 8330 does not do simultaneous voice and data. Penguin already stated this above.

This is an issue with certain OS versions for the 8330.

I talked to a friend who is also on Verizon, with an 8330, he was told by a tech at Verizon to downgrade his software to this version: 4.5.0.138, he sent me the Verizon link: BlackBerry® Software Updates

He told me he didn't want to downgrade but it took his problem away and hasn't seen any problems in downgrading.

Out of curiosity I went to the blackberry support forums and found this: http://supportforums.blackberry.com/.../430414#M64414

My 8330 has done this since day one. I've tried the .138 and the .175 OSs and neither of them have fixed the problem. This is also quite widespread and well known so I'm surprised no one in this forum has heard of it before. Try Googling "Curve 8330 chirp". My post count won't allow me to post a a link.

Does anyone know if upgrading to 4.5.0.186 solves the chirping issue? I actually really like the performance boost provided by .175 so I'm reluctant to go backwards to .138.

Failing that, does anyone know a simple way to create a .175/.138 hybrid with the phone app from the latter? I've downloaded and installed hybrid OSes before, be never put one together.

I'm trying out .186 and will report back on the chirp issue.

In light use I have't gotten the chirp on .186. It's still too early to pronounce it cured though. I'll post back after I've used it some more.

My chirping is completely unrelated to any incoming anything. After a chirp filled call I won't have any new texts, emails or missed calls. Just a ringing ear... .186 seems better, but I haven't used the phone enough to tell yet.

Downgraded back to .138 and chirp is now gone on my 8330. Really annoying that I had to do this!

Have you tried .186? So far I haven't had the "chirp" with this version.I haven't noticed much else about it though. It seems ok so far.
