I've had a Storm for about a year now, In don't have a data plan. I downgraded to OS 4 to see if I could solve a touchscreen problem I'm having. It didn't help so I went to reinstall OS 5, and the Desktop Manager about subscription. So now I need to find a copy of OS 5 that I can use to install. Please help

Its not the copy of the OS, its the fact that it will go down the internet to RIM and tell DM that you don't have a data plan, and therefore won't let you install it.

That's intersting, is the requirement for having a data plan a new thing? cause I had a problem with my dialpad in November last year and I was able to downgrade then upgrade again with no problems. Does it mean that I'm stuck on OS 4 now??

Oh, by the way, I don't live in the US and I'm using an unlocked Storm. Does that make a difference?

No, RIM require a data plan for you to upgrade to OS 5.

If I recall correctly, it was about Christmas or so, first of the year that this became a requirement.

You can download the OS file from stickies at the top of the device specific forums.
Cant you download the OS and run the loader.exe file and install it.
I dont remember the software doing any check for subscription.
I upgraded an old 7100g that we had that did not have service attached.

A data plan is still required now for upgrade to 5.0. As Mr Sanders posted, this a fairly new requirement.
