I have a 8830 under Bell Canada. I bought it thinking I could use it overseas. I find out now that sure I can but at crazy rates. Apparently the phone is locked and I cannot use a SIM card from the UK. I find out I can buy unlock codes but have a few questions.

1. If I buy a code, unlock the phone ,will it operate as normal until I replace the SIM card in the UK

2. Will it go back to normal when I re-install the Canadian SIM card

3.Why is Bell telling me I should replace the 8830 with a 9000 or 9700. They say something about working in the UK that only the 9000 series will work if I replace the SIM with a UK SIM

4. Using a UK Sim gives me a UK phone number. If I buy a data plan do I have to set up a new e mail address or can I check my Blackberry address

Seems like a lot of hassle for a two week trip but the prices Bell wants to charge me as a roaming customer to the UK is crazy. I think if I have a UK number so I can make local calls and be contacted from Canada is far cheaper. Having e mail access in case of a Canadian emergency is also necessary

Someone help

1. Ask if Bell will unlock it. They might.

2. CDMA phones don't use the SIM card -- that is for international use -- so it would be fine.

3. The 9000 is a GSM phone which can be readily unlocked. They also want to sell you something.

4. Almost certainly the UK data plan will not have BLACKBERRY data on it. One of the UK firms (O2?) has pay as you go BB data. Regardless, it won't check the [email address] address if that is what you are using. If you're using a different email address you should be able to get it to work if the data plan is a blackberry data plan.

Personally, I bite the bullet and purchase Sprint's unlimited international plan when I travel. Does Bell offer one of those?

Default Use in Scotland

It is becoming clearer that renting a Blackberry already set up for use in the UK may be the route. I am only gone for two weeks and the phone is for local calls within Scotland while the Blackberry portion is for emergency contact from the office in Canada if necessary
So many things going around in my head and going to Bell they want to sell me something instead of giving advice.

Roaming costs can be quite expensive, I hear Bells are quite high myself. If it's just a two week trip, why don't you turn your data services off and just use the phone sparingly for emergency purposes?

What is the cost of their data roaming plan?

May Blackberry 9530 came with four different power adapters for use in Europe. Does it automatically adjust to the different voltage in London and Paris by the operator simply changing the plug attachments?
Please help me ! Do I need to get an adaptor that changes the voltage from 110 to 220 and then plug it in? I don't want to burn out my blackberry.
