Wirelessly posted (Scared of sea bunnies)

Was playing around with my friend's 9700 (Tmobile) and noticed that I couldn't get Opera Mini to stay in socket connection. OM always changes it to http.

Anybody else notice this problem? Socket works great on my 8320.

I may be wrong, but I think it depends on if the BB is on BES or not. I had problems with Opera on sockets so I switched to http.

Sorry for the ignorance -- but what is a socket connection, how do you access it, and why would you want to do this?

It's not related to BES. I don't have BES and can connect using socket. My friend used to have the 8100 and was on BIS, could also connect using socket.

From Opera Mini's website: What is the difference between ‘http connection’ and ‘socket connection’?

If you choose to use “socket connection”, Opera Mini will keep an open connection to the Opera Mini servers. This means that pages will load quicker, and the Opera Mini servers can push updates (for example new bookmarks through Opera Link) directly to Opera Mini on your phone.

If you choose “http connection”, Opera Mini has to establish a connection to the Opera Mini servers every time you load a page. New updates to Opera Mini will also not be pushed to the phone until a new page is loaded. Note: not all phone models and mobile networks allow socket connections. If you have problems with your connection, try to use “http connection” instead.
