Question EvDO Upgrade for Earthlink 7250 Users

Please Login to Remove!

I just called Earthlink's Blackberry Support department, and asked the rep when Earthlink would offer the software upgrade to enable Earthlink 7250's to access Verizon's higher speed EvDO network.

He told me that he was aware of the higher speed service, but hadn't heard anything about Earthlink offering it.

Has anybody heard anything about it?

Buy the longer battery while you are at it - this EdVo is a battery drainer if you are in a fringe area especially.

Even if I could, I would need my account upgraded to the "Broadband" service. So, I haven't tried.

I am also an Earthlink 7250 user and am hoping Earthlink activates EVDO as well.

After following the EVDO for 7250 sticky, I read a post by someone who claimed to be a verizon tech guy. He emphasized that the Verizon customer accounts were not supposed to be EVDO capable until sometime next year. Only Verizon B2B accounts are being activated now. So, that might mean Earthlink is waiting for Verizon to move on with the customer accounts before implementing its own activation plan.

At any rate, Earthlink has advertised its 7250 as EVDO capable. I just hope they didn't list that feature in vain.

Doesn't the battery charge when the USB is plugged in? You can only tether with the USB cable.

I would take the post from VZWtech with a large grain of salt. I think his post represents the miscommunication of Verizon internally.. I know about 2 dozen people who have 7250s on consumer accounts and everyone got verizon to add the evdo to their account (a handful didn't need it as verizon had already added it to their account) and had evdo up and running in under an hour (including device upgrade)..

I have talked to our corporate rep about this and he stated that EVDO is available for everyone and that VZWtech might be in a different market (or a tier 1 support person who doesn't know what they're talking about).. I'm not saying he knows what he's talking about either..

All I'm saying is that at least here (this Verizon market), anyone can have it now and the Verizon techs/reps have no issues adding it to people's accounts.

This is correct. As I written, different parts of Verizon in different parts of the country is behaving very differently on the opinion of this matter -- in one part of the country it's very easy to add BroadbandAccess to a 7250 as a consumer, but in another part, it is a massive hassle.
