It will not effect your default browser at all. Is it a good idea, thats up to you. I like it for certain sites where I want to see the full website and not the mobile version, but I use the BB browser for most things.
I am still biased to Opera. Your BB Browser is always your default when it comes to downloading regardless of some of the features Opera 5 or the newest Bolt has.

If you're trying to view Flash videos/web pages, this will not help. It will show pages as it would on a PC, not in a mobile view, but it will not add Flash support.
