This may be a silly question but I am new to the Blackberry however QUICKLY! becoming an addict lol.

When someone calls, the phone lights up and automatically shows the number on Caller ID. However, if someone IM's me or Emails me the screen stays black until I click the ball...

Is there a way for it to light up, where I can see the homescreen (which would allow me to see the subject line of the message?) Basically, it would let me know if I need to go any further due to the header or respond later.

You will need to look into some third party applications.

Aerize Email Alerts will do this.
