You can try removing the battery, then pressing down the trackball and roll it in the direction that's not working, while it is still pressed in.

You can try using your finger nail to do the rolling of the trackball. Do that for about 5 minutes and see if it makes a difference.

If not then you can search this forum or google on how to clean your BlackBerry trackball.

Typically if the trackball stops working in one direction, there is dirt or lint that is blocking a contact. Do you carry it in your pocket? If so don't.

Here is something to try. Turn the device off. Press and hold the trackball and roll in the direction that it doesn't move. Then continuing to press in, roll in all directions for about a minute or so. That should dislodge whatever is in there. Turn the device back on and see if it works correctly. If so, get a proper holster to carry the device.

You can also try pressing the ball in and blowing some "canned" air all around it.

If these suggestions and the battery pull suggestion mentioned above don't make it work, then you might need to pull it out. Search the Forums and the FAQ for that procedure. It has been discussed several times before.

my 8330 works just fine. Depending on where you got yours some stores do sale refurbished, but if yours is brand new and not refurbished/reconditioned and the stuff that is mentioned here doesnt work then you should be able to exchange it for another.

I remember when I had the pearl I had to get another one because of the trackball. The second pearl worked fine.

It is frusterating when you buy something new something goes wrong. Remember every thing one buys like phones, xboxes, ps3, or anything of the likes will have people having bad experiences.

Most times you go to a site that talks about an item like the blackberry for example you see people having issues, but never really see the success because people who has no problem with their phone doesnt usually post their good experiences because they are too busy playing or using their bb. you know?

anyways it is actually a small fraction of bad experriences than good, you know?
