Default What effects Memory

Please Login to Remove!

Have an ATT Bold with .167. Can't upgrade due to corp policy. Have a number of apps installed. I know about the memory leak. I reboot, start about20MB or so, and it rapidly declines.

Was wondering... Does the Theme used effect memory (i.e the more icons on the front screen, or some themes have 2-3 calendar, message entries showing?

I do shut down my apps after using....

Try changing your theme back to the default ones that came with your phone. Also, to make sure third party are not running in the background, click the menu button, then go down to switch applications (or press alt + back key) and scroll left and right to see what apps are running. By default, the phone, home screen, messages, blackberry messengers, and browser should be running in the background. You cant close those.

Wirelessly posted (Bold)

Other apps can run in the background without appearing in the alt-esc list. Any number of 3rd party apps could be making things worse, but to be honest .167 bleeds memory no matter what you do. A simple, inexpensive solution is Qucikpull Pro. It monitors your memory and will do a reset if you go below a memory threshold you set. You can also set it to do a scheduled reboot daily or weekly to keep yourself from running short on memory.
Shop around it's currently for sale for 0.99 at some online shops.

Interesting - I never knew that. Can you give me an example of an application that run in the background and doesn't appear in the applications task list?

SMSScheduler, Antair AutoResponder*, Antair Spam Filter*, PhoneBAKUp/Monitor*, BerryBuzz/BerryPopUp/SmartAlerts, logmaid, MemoryEye, MyCallLogs*, QuickPull Pro*, etc.

*admittedly these may be "triggered" rather than active all the time and running in the background, but I do differentiate these types from other apps such as QuickLaunch, QuickText and such that are launched manually.

But the apps in the list above don't show icons in the switch ribbon for me.

To answer the question asked in your Subject: Alcohol, and sometimes blunt force trauma.

Like others have said, there are memory leaks all over the place in the OS and 3rd party apps (i suspect Facebook has a bunch). I'm not sure about themes tho i'm inclined to say they don;t affect memory that much since they are just organizing the screen not processing things like an app might.

To answer to the original question: the memory usually declines (and this happens to all OS,not only BB) due to the fact that a so called "garbage collector"- a little program supposed to kick in after you close you app and to recover the memory your last program used, to make it again available to other apps. And it can't do it properly due to a big number of factors. Just make sure you don't install all crap apps but only necessary.
