Question Goodle maps, BB maps, GPS and data charges

Please Login to Remove!

Ive been using a BB for a while, but never had the need to use the maps. However, there are a few things that are not clear to me:

1. If the phone has GPS, does it still need data to access the maps? Or the maps are stored locally.

2. Is it possible to use the built-on GPS without incurring data charges. The only time I would need a map is when I'm traveling abroad and roaming data charges are HUGE. I'm looking for a way to prevent this.

Thanks

1. Yes. No.

2. See the handy Sticky Thread in the top of the GPS/Mapping section, scroll down to Maps on the Media Card. Not easy, but it works.
