I believe he meant to type "8310" -- this appears to just be a typo.
An IT policy can force a BlackBerry to lock if it is idle for a specific period of time. Mind you, this idle time is from the perspective of
your interaction with the device. It won't take into account that if you're not typing or using the trackball, that an application might still be working on downloading (or doing whatever it is your application is doing).
To my knowledge, there is no setting that will fix this. Just move the ball or press a button every once in a while. You could also check with the BES administrator to see if he is willing to increase the allowed idle time for you.
If your phone isn't on a BES, you can change this yourself under the phone's Options | Security Options | General Settings.
