Default Ratio to BB devices to Agent count

Please Login to Remove!

I was curious to know if there is a magic formula between blackberry devices and agent counts.

My underlieing issue is that email is always sent to devices randonly in chunks and not flow fluidly. This is for some people but not for all.

I've tried contacting support and they tell me it is probably because of threads hanging and not recovering properly. But what can I do about it, reboot the BES every day?

I've tried letting the BES adjust the agents automatically. I've tried setting it a certain amount of users per agent with the reg tweak. If I set a static agent then it seems to work well, although there is only small amount of people assigned to a static agent.

There is no rhyme or reason who this happens to.

It's running on exchange 2003 with BES 4.1 in VMware. The BES never works hard at all. One issue is that our Exchange environment is managed externaly at a higher level and account creation remains in house. Hardware is physially on the same LAN within our company. Running 300 devices on the BES.

Thoughts?

What is your disk structure like?
How many SGs?
Do you seperate SG's and RAID arrays?

Do you have enough IOPS?

Each BES user is like having 3.7 exchange users.

It's a Microsoft cluster with active/passive.
Back end data is a NetApp connected via iscsi
There are four storage groups. Each one is group out into four sub storage groups. Each having seperate spindles for logs and data.

There are currently 833 active mailboxes and 288 blackberry devices.

Looking at IOPS now.

How many devices in each storage group and how many users in each?

In reply to your questions about how many devices are in each storage group, I would have to say that it is just a free for all. No rhyme or reason. We have a 'unique' exchange environment where design issues are controlled by an outsourced company. I'm sure that the BES environment was never a consideration.
