i just got my blackberry and i am having some issues with the email. i set up an email on the blackberry (its an @sprint.blackberry.com address), but my primary email is a gmail account. is there a way to have the gmail account be the default one used when i select a contact and e-mail them from the address book? i have the gmail app but if possible i would prefer it if i could do everything strait from my contacts like i can with the blackberry email.

if that is not possible, then i have another problem i need to solve. i have sent a few emails through my blackberry email to family members and heard later that they tried replying and got a notification later that it had failed. anyone having similar issues?

Check the FAQ. There is a section on email.

Also, I do not recommend using the carrier email address (@sprint.blackberry.com). Using it opens you to tons of SPAM as it is totally unfiltered. You can't take it with you when and if you change carriers And the only way to read email to that account is to use the bB. No webmail option, so when the network is down, so is your email.

Absolutely!

Menu>Options>Advanced Options>Default Services (yours may say Message Services) then select the Gmail account and menu>save

okay i have it set up with my gmail account as my default now, but my outgoing emails are still from the carrier address (@sprint.blackberry.net), so when people try replying to ones i send from my phone they get a failure notice. is it possible to send outgoing email from the gmail address as well?

If they sent to your @blackberry.net when you reply it will use that one. When you reply to one received using gmail it should use the gmail account. Now that you have set the default when you compose rather than reply it should use Gmail. If that's not the case then do a hard reset (Battery pull while the device is on) and try again.

Also, when composing if your scroll to the "Send using" line and click you can change the account.
