Question Just got 1st BB 8330. What to do first?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi Folks,

I am charging the Curve now. On verizon network. Got it on the New Every Two program for $49 after rebates. Surprisingly, I should be able to sell my KRAZR for $50-$80 on Ebay so it really will be a free phone. $29.99/mo isn't bad for email/web.

Should I go through the initial setup when it's done charging or download the latest OS first?

Is it possible Verizon slipped in the latest OS already? My unit just shipped 3 days ago.

Can't see much without doing the initial setup.

Which OS is most stable?

I see the latest OS has HTML email support- that's fairly important to me.

I got this in the hopes it will help me stay in touch with my girlfriend who just flew back to Serbia.

But if we both have BB's then we can email almost like text messaging, right- as long as we each have an email program with our providers...that is.

Thanks in advance for any tips!

Wirelessly posted (by Milton and his stapler.)

If you both have data plans then bbm would be the easiest to do just exchange pins its just like any messenger out there.

If its brand new, I would just update the OS first before you do anything else. 4.5.0.77 is the latest VZW OS for the Curve.

Hi Dean, Welcome to BBF. As stated above if you and the GF both have Blackberry's, then Blackberry Messenger is the program to use, Set up is easy, Just open BBM, it's the Blue Blackberry symbol icon on your screen. If the GF is already in your address book with an E-Mail, you can select to send her an invite. She accepts the invite and she will then be in your contact list. Enjoy Your Blackberry!!

OK. I love it thus far.

Couple questions...

1) I'm liking either Gmail or Gmail Mobile better than the blackberry email...any compelling reasons to use bb email over Gmail mobile? I wish they HAD a pay for service.

2) Gmail is sending me notifications even for messages I send off the computer as if it's a new message. Is there an IMAP feature or something so I only see new email I get?

3) Should be super simple thing...

I usually turned my Motorola KRAZR to Alarm Only sound mode before bed. That way no wrong numbers would wake me. I cannot even see how to change the universal ring volume easily. I'd usually like it to only sound my alarm I set daily. Is there a way to do that?

4) Themes. I need to experiment with them. I'll read all the links later. I want something clean and efficient and speedy.

5) Facebook- want to DELETE it- never use it- wasn't able to delete within Applications list on phone.

6) On an old Smart PC there was a program that allowed one to operate the phone while it was docked using the computer keyboard/mouse to more efficiently type stuff in- anything like that for the BB?

7) My contacts from my motorolla - I saved them via Verizon's backup to their server. Anyway to import to the BB?

Basically, I REALLY am impressed with it thus far. Just need more time to get efficient with it.

8) I cannot download any 4.7 version of desktop manager to my PC that isn't corrupt upon extracting. My Inet connection is fine. Are all 4.7 desktop versions corrupt? Anywhere I can download the latest with no issues?

9) MicroSD cards...what is the current sweet spot- and it seems the OS version needs to have capability to use more than 4GB.

10) Ringtones- best place to get them? Ideally free or small charge?

Thx for now. Sorry for so many questions. Feels weird not to have everyone's ring tone's assigned and contacts set up.

Appreciate responses!

When on the main screen without all the icons move your trackball over to the picture of the volume/ringer indicator, you can then select it to quiet which will silence your ringer and notifications. Then go into the icons and select the alarm, set your alarm time as well as alarm tone and it will still sound even when the phone is on quiet.
