.190 = .190

It's all the same. No need to waste your time.

pretty sure that if they changed anything, it would be a new release, say .190, change 2 things, its now .191.

The "beta" .190 is just what is released to the carriers for certification, so if the approve it, then its no longer beta.

Here is the thing that gets me.. where is the citation for this?

People repeat that beta version #s are the same as final release version #s, but a source has never been cited for this.

One question mark that I wonder about is, is it possible that the beta versions have 'debug' code turned on with additional logging that the 'release' version doesn't? Etc.

The only beta's that have additional bug info software are the ones that weren't released to and leaked from the carriers.

If you really do believe that the official 190 is different than the leaked 190 than to change them you can either downgrade back to 185 first, then go to official 190 or wipe your bold first completely load on the official 190. If you wipe just make sure to back up first.

You want a book or manual or something?

What makes it authoritative enough as a source that you would "believe". To me, a friend or contact with trusted status is all the citation I need.

Beta: indicates that while a version of the software is fully functional, it is still in development

Ok no one here is a developer or are not stating that they are. I am a developer and worked in many dev shops. RIM does not half ass things when it comes to development. As mentioned before Beta just means it has not been 100% tested to be working that does not mean that its not 100% OK. If there was a problem with .190 lets say light stays on all the time, RIM would make a minor revision change and branch of their development to .191 and continue from there. This is the purpose of major and minor revision numbers. if .190 is out f Beta it means that the code was tested to be 100% compatible they would not increment the minor revision number just to go from Beta to RTM (release to market) code, this is not how development is done and RIM would and does follow this best practice to a T.

Take it from source and someone who has many friends and works not less then 10 blocks form RIM that this is how they produce their code. now people still screw up and you might see a minor revision for nothing.

This is why I don't like to call them "beta." They are merely "unreleased." As stated several times in this thread, if ANY changes were made, they would rename it with a newer version number.

If you have .190 then you have .190. It's all the same stuff. The ONLY difference would be added info into the vendor.xml file so that the OS will only install on that carrier's brand of device. Once deleted, the OS is exactly the same.
