Default Verizon change in data plan

Please Login to Remove!

I plan on upgrading to the storm on Friday. I do not currently have blackberry service, so i called the Verizon customer service line to verify the costs. I was informed that they no longer offer the "email and web for BlackBerry" plan. this was the $30 per month addition to the voice plan. The CSR told me that they made the change as of today (Nov 16) and the plan is now called "BlackBerry Solution" and costs $49.99. I asked why they made the change and the CSR said "for marketing". Can any other CSRs or customers of verizon confirm this change?

I just went on the verizon wireless site and added a bb pearl and plan on my shopping cart. The option with BB email added for $30 still. This was listed as BlackBerry® Nationwide Email. There is a plan called BlackBerry® Solution, that shows at 49.99...not sure the difference is...unless it is the BIS vs BES option...

Really? The only one that i see is:

Monthly Allowance Monthly Access Per-Minute Rate
Unlimited Data Usage $49.99 $0.25

it's listed under the blackberry email tab and is the only plan listed. which tab are you under when selecting a plan?

When I added a BB to my plan a few months ago, I asked if there was a basic plan as I only saw the 49.99 on their site as well. But when talking to the CSR they advised if youre using BIS, the 29.99 is available. I do not recall seeing it on the site at the time and do not recall seeing it since.

I called and spoke to another CSR. she said that the original CSR was wrong and that they do offer the email and web for bb plan. she directed me to the website where you select the minutes first, then you select the "feature" which is 29.99. i guess they want the avg consumer to select the more expensive options listed under "plans" rather than "features". Maybe the original csr had a vested interest in selling the more expensive plan?

thanks for the replies

I think the plan for $49.99 is if you're an exchange user. I just use BIS so the unlimited data plan for me is only $29.99.

the data plan u use depends on wether or not ur company uses the blackberry enterprise server for email. if yes its $44.99 versus the $29.99 plan for regular users

Gunner: You should just have to add the BIS plan (29.99) to your line to be able to use the Storm with your POP3/IMAP email (aka GMail, Yahoo, etc). If you have a corporate email address and they use the Blackberry Enterprise Server (pushes calendar/contacts/email/todos) you need the more expensive BES plan.

Indeed you should be. May I suggest though picking up a Gmail account, for a couple reasons:

1) Cable company independent - what happens when FiOS comes to town...your email address won't be tied to your cable company

2) GMail (and Yahoo I think) does push email to Blackberry devices even on BIS.

Now, there have been some trials of IMAP Idle (which is essentially push email) using BIS and Comcast supports that (it actually uses Zimbra as its back end mail platform) but I haven't heard a date on the formal launch of IMAP Idle.

Anyway, just a tip, take it with the grain of salt.

gunner, you'll still need that Blackberry Web and Email plan ($30) if you want to use any data.

Yeah I know machiavelli. Here is a hypothetical question, say I don't want to use the e-mail, web, or navigator. What would be the total cost of an upgrade excluding the price of the phone itself.

hypothetcialy, full retail price, i dont see vzw providing an upgrade discount without buying into their mail service. also, what would be the point of not having access to the 'net and having this phone?

Oh I don't know. It was just a hypothetical. Good to know though. Thanks for the answer

I spoke to a rep today that said the Web and Email add-on is required for all BB devices at VZW. As you all know, stories sometimes vary from rep to rep, so take it for what it's worth.

Also, I strongly encourage you to shell out the $5 per month for the insurance. There is a gap in the phone I am told and some people are worried about moisture issues.

I too have the $30 data plan, and "something" unlimited for $15.00/month, but I've been told I have to update my 1000 minute/39.99 "local" calling (phone) plan to a nationwide plan. Comparable nationwide for 900 minutes is $59.99, so looks like they're going to skin me for twenty bucks a month, to upgrade to a storm
