Default Updating to Nextel 7520 and I have questions

Please Login to Remove!

I have a I730 and am looking to move to a 7520. How well does this BB work? CAn I connect to an external antenna, What about a "quality hands free kit" I don't mind the cost as I am a sales rep that uses about 3000 minutes per month and most of the minutes is in my truck. Need external mike and speaker as well as the ability to hook up a power charger and external antenna.

CAn you or someone help me????

Thanks Dan

I've never seen an oem car kit for the 7520. The only thing you could do would be to do a "roll your own" solution.

Use a generic phone holder, an OEM Car charger and either a bluetooth or wired headset or speaker/mic combo.

As for external antenna, Wilson Electronics might have one you can use. They have active boosters for IDEN phones. They don't list a compatible antenna plug on their web page, but they might have one compatible if you call. If not, they have one that clips to the existing antenna. www.wilsonelectronics.com

you can go to www.proclip.com and get a vehicle mount. That might be your best solution. Also think www.smartphonedepot.com sells these.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry7520/4.0.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1)

Dan: I have went from the i730 to the BlackBerry 7510 now I just upgraded to the 7520. I have found the BlackBerries to be far superior to any of the other nextel phones I have used, signal and reception wise. You may want to checkout the bluetooth forums, many people have come up with solutions in there.

I agree. Although coming from the i730 you might notice a very slight drop in quality when using speakerphone (not direct connect)

ive owned five or six different i730's and not one of them had a speaker phone that was worth a damn...the speakerphone on the 7520 is decent although not great but ita a large improvement from the 730's speakerphone

Default I upgraded

I went from an i730 to the BB7520 and it was the best thing I've done in the cell phone aspect of my life!
I used the hands free wired pregnant ear bud for a while but found the other person complained of my voice going in and out as the mic swung around...so I went with a Jabra with a boom mic...that worked really well, but found that always having to pull out the cord and plug it in was a pain and by the time I plugged it in, the phone would stop ringing.
So, I went with a Bluetooth headset. I hate to spend alot of money, so I waited until I found one that was inexpensive enough to make it worth the attempt.
I opted for the IOGear from Buy.com. This cost under $30 and included shipping! Can't go wrong with that! as for a car kit? Well, the BB stays in the center console...or when I'm home, in the kitchen...or at work, in my deskdrawer...the Bluetooth headset seems to be good for over 60 feet in any direction!

Thumbs up

I went from an i860 which I loved but, the voice quality was SO bad over the past 3 months I had to bail out. It sounded like people were under water or drunk. Just horrible. I was on with tech support at nextel AND motorola 6 times each and still no luck.
So in comes the 7520, I'm never going back. This puppy is great!
Heck I'm thinking I'm gonna put my NX80 Clie on Ebay. But it has a CF slot so maybe not just yet.

Yes I have to agree with everyone here. I went from an i860 to a BB 7520, and it is probably the best phone I've ever had. Better service and reception than any of my past Moto's (maybe even better than my i90c) with fast and reliable data throughput. You can't go wrong.

The only downside is the service can get EXPENSIVE.

Then antenna will unscrew. I suppose you can get some kind of antenna that screws into the spot.

But it isn't the same size as any other nextel phones I've seen.
